Energy Futures Webinar: A Gambit for Grid 2035

The Pacific Energy Institute released “A Gambit for Grid 2035” earlier this year.  The paper interrogates the evolutionary forces impacting the global power sector and the key structural shifts that are becoming increasingly critical – both governance and technological.

A key observation is that, globally, we are fast approaching many of the inherent design limits of the 20th century system, and its ability to adapt fast enough.  The dynamic interactions between diverse customer types, disruptive business models, emerging technologies and established regulatory and governance models are expanding and accelerating.

In Australia, the NEM and SWIS are transitioning to become some of the world’s most decentralised power systems.  In this context, one of the ‘big ideas’ of the paper is perhaps critical for navigating disruptive forces.  That is, the need for a comprehensive shift from a dominant historical focus on the supply-side of the power system to one that is at least as deeply focused on customers and the demand-side.

Globally respected lead authors of A Gambit for Grid 2035, Paul De Martini and Dr Jeffrey Taft, will present some of the key insights of the paper at this Energy Futures webinar followed by a Q&A session.  They will be joined by Lynne Gallagher of Energy Consumers Australia and John Phillpotts of Strategen for a wide-ranging discussion on the paper’s relevance to Australia.

We hope you can join us for what promises to be a thought-provoking event hosted by Strategen.
